Alex Ross is great. Uninspired, wooden… But great. His entire catalogue looks like one of the following:
-Norman Rockwell work.
-Overly Dramatized work.
-THE SAME FREAKING MODELS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
-Whoever is lucky enough to have him paint over their pencils.
That’s the problem I have with Alex Ross: he’s a great colorist. He’s got a great sense of design, of drama, of mythos, and reference… But he has rarely displayed truly good storytelling ability. He’s not an interior artist for that reason. So, I like his colors and paints over someone else’s work. I also like his character designs. I’m not terribly fond of his habit of painting photo-realistic portraits of the Justice League, but thats why there are so many books on the shelf!
