Gene Colan ~ “Inside Daredevil!”
Most, if not all inked by John Tartaglione. Loved his work on the Catholic books dome under Shooter as well as such Atlas work as I’ve glanced at.
But his 60s inks were awful; make the pencilers look bad — Colan, Steranko and Ayers. In his defense — maybe — I believe he was on staff at the time, so all these jobs may have been crushed under deadline pressures. But just terrible.
I have rarely seen Colan’s work look better than when he was on his own, just pencils on white paper. I cannot think of an inker I liked working with him either. He had a few pages at the end of Guggenheim/Chaykin “Blade” book that looked great with colors, but no inks. I dunno. I love the guy’s work, I know that.
